Duarte, Redfield to announce college choices Friday

OCVARSITY.COM

Orange County’s top two uncommitted football recruits are expected to announce their college decisions Friday during separate nationally televised all-star games.

Register offensive player of the year Thomas Duarte of Mater Dei said he will reveal his pick during the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Carson, while Register defensive player of the year Max Redfield of Mission Viejo will announce his intentions during the Under Armour All-America game in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Redfield (6-2, 195) said in a text message Thursday night that he narrowed his picks to Notre Dame, USC and a new finalist, Ohio State. The former USC commit is expected to start at safety in the Under-Armour game, which airs on ESPN on 2 p.m.

Duarte (6-3, 225) lists his finalists as Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington. The Semper Fidelis game will be shown on the NFL Network at 6 p.m.

Other county players participating in the game at The Home Depot Center: Santa Margarita’s Dane Crane, San Clemente’s Sean Harlow and Orange Lutheran’s John Lopez. Mission Viejo’s Erik Bunte will sit out because of an ankle injury.

HINNANT COMMITS

Fountain Valley offensive lineman J.D. Hinnant (6-4, 265) has committed to Cal, he said Thursday. The senior had narrowed his final picks to Cal, Duke and Oregon.
