Hill's four scores help lift Fullerton
FULLERTON - Joseph Hill rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns as Fullerton cruised to a 55-6 victory over Buena Park in a Freeway League game Friday night at Fullerton High.
Hill scored on runs of 5, 2, 45 and 22 yards as the Indians (6-1, 2-0) won their fourth in a row and have outscored their opponents, 170-37, in the process. The Coyotes (2-5, 0-2) lost their third in a row.
“We took a step closer to a league title,” said Hill, who has rushed for 953 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. “We’re getting better each a game, and we’re playing like we know how.”
Late in the first quarter, Hill capped a 10-play, 65-yard scoring drive with a 5-yard TD run. On Buena Park’s ensuing possession, Paul Jovel picked off a pass and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown, increasing the Indians’ lead to 14-0.
“I saw the receiver stop and then I knew I had a chance to jump in and intercept the ball,” said Jovel, who helped the Fullerton defense record four sacks.
Hill added two touchdown runs in the second quarter, including a 45-yarder, to give Fullerton a commanding 27-0 halftime lead. Hill added a 22-yard TD run in the third quarter.
The Fullerton defense, led by Anthony Milone, Jeremy Cargill and George Pacheco, slowed the Coyotes’ attack in the first half limiting the Buena Park offense to 37 yards.
Troy Nelson had a 814-yard TD run for Buena Park on the final play.
