Fullerton strikes again, knocks off Western
Western vs. Fullerton
FULLERTON - Senior defensive back Jon Lindsey gave the Fullerton Indians life, and running back Michael Allain applied the finishing touches.
Fullerton went into halftime of its nonleague game against Western trailing by two touchdowns. However, when the final horn sounded, the Indians were the ones celebrating.
The Indians (3-1) rallied Friday night for a 21-13 home victory that will likely shake up the CIF-SS Southwest Division rankings next week.
Western entered the game ranked No. 2 in the division, while Fullerton was No. 5. Fullerton had moved up to fifth after its victory over then-No. 1 El Dorado on Sept. 18.
"I have to give (congratulations) to the (offensive) lineman," Allain said. "They saw that it was a good team coming after us, and they stepped up and went heads up with them and came out with the victory.
Lindsey started the comeback with a pair of third-quarter touchdowns. He had a 31-yard fumble return with 6:48 remaining. Later, he caught a 4-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to give the Indians a 14-13 lead.
The defense came up with a couple of big plays in the fourth quarter to quiet the Western offense.
Bryan Sandoval intercepted a Derek Orman pass with 7:28 to go and later the defense forced a turnover on downs with 1:42 on the clock.
That was when Allain took over.
Allain, needing 1 yard to seal the victory, went 27 to give Fullerton a 21-13 lead.
"That's smash-mouth football for you," Allain said.
Western moved the ball into Fullerton territory on the ensuing possession, but the game ended when Dominic Ortega was tackled on a third down.
The teams played a scoreless first quarter. Western then struck on a pair of big plays.
Quincey Kizee scored on a% 73-yard run and Mookie Cooksie added a 30-yard run for a 13-0 lead at halftime.
