TOP SEED: El Toro's Kelsey Engel clocked the fastest 50-yard freestyle during the girls prelims at the Foothill Swim Games with a 24.87 on Thursday.

Santa Margarita's girls swim team showed its depth.

JSerra's Casey Mims showed her individual speed.

Both showings were impressive Thursday during the girls prelims at the 36th Foothill Swim Games.

No. 8 Santa Margarita qualified first in three individual races along with the 400-yard freestyle relay.

For Saturday's finals, Santa Margarita's Alex Delaney will be seeded first in the 200 free after she clocked a time of 1minute, 56.89 seconds.

Santa Margarita freshman Shannon Mack qualified first in the 200 individual medley (2:14.20). Meagan Brown of Santa Margarita clocked the top time in the 500 free (5:09.71). The Eagles' 400 free relay touched in 3:43.84.

Mims had the best individual effort. In the 100 breaststroke, the freshman missed the All-American consideration standard by one-hundredth of a second with 1:06.40 — about a second off her season best.

Northwood earned three No. 1 seeds. The Timberwolves' medley (1:55.47) and 200 free relays (1:41.81) grabbed top spots as did sophomore Morgan Sprosty in the butterfly with a swift 58.68.

El Toro's Kelsey Engle (50 free, 24.87), Esperanza's Alyssa Tran (100 free, 54.23) and Brea Olinda's Annika Games (100 back, 1:00.52) were the other top qualifiers.
