ANAHEIM - Beckman has won four out of five games this season, but the Patriots still have a nagging question.
How good are they?
The Patriots didn’t answer that question Saturday desite their 42-7 nonleague victory over Katella at Western High.
Sure, Cody Demavivas scored four touchdowns, the offense scored on its first four possessions, and a critical turnover is probably the only thing that prevented the defense from securing its third shutout of the season. But it was just another victory over an opponent with a losing record.
Beckman’s five opponents - and it plays winless Woodbridge next week - are a combined 5-18.
“We don’t know,” said first-year coach Fred Shambaugh. “We’re young, we’re trying to instill some values. We’re growing, but we’re not there yet.
Beckman (4-1) played with confidence Saturday. Katella (1-3) fell behind 28-0 just 23 seconds into the second quarter.
Demavivas scored three times, on runs of 4, 3 and 1 yard, and Keith Lawson had an 8-yard TD run.
Two of those first four scoring possessions came after fumble recoveries at the Katella 19 and 31. On the night, Katella lost five fumbles.
