Foothill pulls out victory with Lee's late goal


Eleanor Lee scored a counterattack goal with 19 seconds left to lift Foothill's No. 3 girls water polo team past host No. 6 El Toro, 12-11, in a season-opening nonleague match Friday.

Foothill is ranked second in the preseason CIF-Southern Section Division 1 coaches poll; El Toro is first in the preseason Division 2 coaches poll.

Lee, a senior who has signed with Loyola Marymount, is best known for her defense, but she netted the winning strike.

Delaney Riley scored three goals and Emily Browning made 15 saves to pace the Chargers.

Yorba Linda 10, Cerritos 8: The Mustangs (3-0) were outscored 3-1 in the fourth period, but held on to beat the Dons in the quarterfinals at Esperanza.

No. 1 Mater Dei 73, Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills 34: Khalia Lark scored 26 points with three 3-pointers and Katie Samuelson added 21 as the Monarchs defeated the Trojans at Clovis West High.

Karlie Samuelson also contributed 17 points for Mater Dei (2-0).
