Foothill hitting its stride
Foothill vs. Woodbridge. Game played at Tustin High.
TUSTIN - Foothill coach Doug Case summed up his team's 34-0 victory over Woodbridge rather succinctly Friday night.
"Woodbridge is getting better and better by the week, but tonight they ran into a team that's running on all cyclinders," he said.
Indeed.
The Knights (6-1, 2-0) totaled 339 yards and recorded their first shutout of the season in easily defeating the Warriors (1-6, 1-1) in a Sea View League game at Tustin High.
"I definitely didn't come into the game with any delusions (of winning)," Woodbridge coach Rick Gibson said. "Foothill is a very well-coached team and have a lot of returners. They're very good."
After stalling on their first two possessions, the Knights struck paydirt in six of their next seven. The only stop by Woodbridge was on an end zone interception by Noah Peterman.
Running back Robert Daniel initiated the scoring with a 14-yard run in the first quarter. Minutes later, Foothill quarterback Zach Griffith connected with Eddie Dainko on a 13-yard scoring pass one play after the Knights' James Song blocked a punt.
Dane Mitten hit two field goals of 29 and 32 yards to put Foothill ahead, 20-0. The Knights added scoring passes by Griffith of 12 yards to Ben Douglas and 30 to Nick Schlemmer.
