Mission Viejo, Bridgford destroy another opponent
Capistrano Valley Vs. Mission Viejo
MISSION VIEJO - Most quarterbacks would consider 223 yards, five touchdowns, and an 82 percent completion percentage a good stat line for a game.
Mission Viejo quarterback Allan Bridgford had just that, except he amassed those impressive numbers in less than two full quarters of play.
The Diablos (9-1, 4-1) destroyed the Capistrano Valley Cougars (3-7, 1-4), 62-7, in their final home game of the regular season Friday night, finishing up league play one game behind South Coast League champion Tesoro. (Full game stats.)
Mission Viejo was a beast on offense, scoring three touchdowns on their first seven plays and five touchdowns in their first five possessions.
Bridgford marched his team down the field with laser-like precision, with wide receivers Joey Branker and Kevin Chandler reaping the benefits.
The Cougars have struggled offensively lately, scoring only 13 points in their past three games, and their offense continued the trend against the Diablos.
Capistrano Valley quarterback Brandon Brennan finished with 117 yards on 9-for-31 passing. He did not receive any help from his running game either, with six players combining for a measly 47 yards.
Toward the end of the second quarter, with the score 42-0, the Diablos put in backup quarterback Dallin McEwen. One play was all he needed to put his stamp on the game, hitting Branker for a 22-yard touchdown pass that put the Diablos up, 49-0.
Mission Viejo played the second half with its subs, highlighted by two touchdown runs by McEwen.
