Rough ending for Rancho Alamitos
NORWALK - The No. 4 seeded Norwalk Lancers had 30 points after the first quarter and 50 by halftime as they cruised to a 63-8 victory over the Rancho Alamitos Vaqueros (6-5) in the first round of the CIF-SS Southern Division playoffs.
“They got a good pass rush on us,” Vaqueros head coach Mike Enright said. “They manned up, and we had some trouble getting open.”
The Lancers pressured Vaqueros quarterback Mike Frank all night, holding him to 15 of 40 passing for 206 yards and one touchdown. Frank was sacked seven times on the night and picked off once.
“That was the key,” Lancers coach Jesse Ceniceros said. “We wanted to be able to put pressure on Frank. He’s an awesome quarterback, and we did a good job of putting pressure on him.”
Enright knew things could be difficult against the Lancers.
“I knew going in that we might be in a little bit of trouble,” Enright said. “They are very physical, and we are more of a finesse team and they played well.”
The Lancers (10-1) ran for over 500 yards and eight touchdowns on the night.
