Whittier Christian's late charge isn't enough
Whittier Christian's late charge isn't enough
Whittier Christian vs. Valley Christian. Game played at Valley Christian High.
CERRITOS - If familiarity breeds contempt, then there is no telling what Whittier Christian quarterback Taylor Smith feels after his Heralds were beaten soundly by his former team, Valley Christian of Cerritos, 38-21, on Friday night.
Smith completed only 3 of 13 passes before being pulled near the end of the first half for Stephen Anderson, who proceeded to go 17 for 24 for 251 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Anderson led the Heralds to three fourth-quarter scores.
The Crusaders came out hot after a 14-day layoff, scoring on the first play from scrimmage, a 60-yard run by Ryan Montgomery, who finished with 192 yards on 18 carries.
"He never goes down on the first hit," Valley Christian coach Erick Streelman said. "He’s only 175 pounds, but he cleans more than our other guys, he benches more than our other guys and he out-squats almost all of our other guys."
