Bolsa Grande lets chance, game get away

Special to OCVarsity.com

GARDEN GROVE - Bolsa Grande had one moment at the end of the first half in which it had a chance to make a game of it.

No timeouts and poor clock management led to the Matadors coming away with no points, and that is how they finished the nonleague game, a 27-0  loss to Pioneer of Whittier on Friday night.

The Matadors could not get anything going offensively in the first half until Mikhail Lowery busted off a 76-yard run that put the ball at the Titans 6 with 33 seconds remaining.

Two short running plays and a hurried incomplete pass as the clock expired left the Matadors (2-2) with a 21-0 halftime deficit.

Lowery was the bright spot for the Matadors with 137 yards  rushing on 17 carries. Jesus Segovia got off to a nice start for the Matadors, completing two of his first three passes, both for first downs, but Bolsa Grande finished the game with only 53 yards passing and 163 yards of total  offense.

The Titans  (1-3) had little trouble moving the ball, as Matt Botello ran for 257 yards and two TDs.

Botello’s 50-yard run on the Titans first play from scrimmage set up a  1-yard TD run by Ronnie Palacios for a 7-0 Pioneer lead.
