Varnadoe leads Fairmont Prep to victory
YORBA LINDA - Behind a potent ground attack, Fairmont Prep came away with a 32-27 victory over Sage Hill in a nonleague game at Yorba Linda High on Saturday night.
Leading the ground game for Fairmont (1-0) was junior quarterback Bobby Varnadoe, who consistently broke tackles and got into the open on his way to 155 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.
Running back Jay Solanki picked up 126 yards on 12 carries, including a key 48-yard run that set up a Varnadoe's touchdown for a a 20-6 lead in the second quarter.
Sage Hill receiver Logan Hamilton was tackled 15 yards from the end zone and a potential winning score with seven seconds to play after recovering a fumble.
Sage Hill quarterback Harrison Ray was 10-of-16 passing for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
