Fairmont Prep gets a scare but holds on
The Huskies defeat St. Anthony, 28-25.
A pair of Richard Johnson touchdown runs, one the result of a fake punt by the Huskies (2-0), had allowed Fairmont Prep to seemingly break the game open with a 21-point lead with 6:34 to go.
The Saints (1-2) fought back by marching 72 yards on the ensuing drive, capped by quarterback Lamont Rowe’s 32-yard run. The point-after kick failed though.
Sergio Gonzalez’s 46-yard fumble recovery for a score cut the lead to 28-19 with 3:31 to go. The Saints’ try for two points failed.
Following a Fairmont punt, the Saints faced third-and-32 from midfield, and they converted as Rowe found Eddie Nuno, who beat defenders into the end zone to cut the deficit to three.
A two-point conversion snap from shotgun formation went over Rowe’s head to keep the Fairmont lead at three.
