Evans leads Griffins to victory
Los Alamitos 42, Long Beach Wilson 20
Clark Evans gave the Long Beach Wilson Bruins a taste of his versatility in Thursday’s nonleague game at Veterans Stadium.
Sure, the Los Alamitos junior quarterback completed 18 of 27 passes for 217 yards and one touchdown. However, when he wasn’t passing, he was running. Evans took the Griffins offense back in time, running what turned into a Single Wing-T and finishing with 157 yards rushing and five rushing touchdowns in a 42-20 home victory.
"The single wing was absolutely amazing tonight," Evans said. "That’s what we put it in for.
"We kept running on them and that’s what got us the win."
Evans scored on runs of 10, 1, 7, 6 and 4 yards.
His lone touchdown pass came in the second quarter on a 14-yard strike to Brandon Graves.
"Coach Barnes gives me the calls and I can take it or if I see something else (in the defense), he let’s me change it. …That’s the freedom of our offense," Evans said.
