Murtha, Estancia run past Calvary Chapel


COSTA MESA - Powered by senior running back Robert Murtha, Estancia defeated Calvary Chapel, 51-17, in an Orange Coast League game Friday night at Estancia High.

Estancia (7-3, 4-1) entered the game having clinched the league’s second playoff spot.

Murtha rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. His 83-yard dash early in the first quarter gave Estancia a 14-0 lead, and it came on the heels of senior quarterback Brad Wilson’s 62-yard touchdown pass to Ben Beck on the third play from scrimmage.

Murtha added runs of 62 and 22 yards before sitting out the majority of the second half. His replacement, senior Deion’Te Haywood ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries.

Chris Turner scored twice on short runs for Calvary Chapel (3-7, 0-5), which also got a 72-yard kickoff return and a 32-yard field goal from Billy Wagner.

Quarterback Colin Kearon was 17 of 35 passing for 254 yards in the final game of his Calvary Chapel career. Seven of his completions went to Luke Kaeser for 125 yards.

Kilian Headington added an interception.
