COSTA MESA- Radames Gutierrez and Carlos Mendez ran for second-half touchdowns as Estancia defeated Buena Park, 21-6, in a nonleague game Friday at Estancia’s Jim Scott Stadium.

Mendez had 108 of his 132 rushing yards after halftime, and the Eagles (2-1) overcame a slow start to put away the Coyotes (1-2).

The game turned late in the third quarter when Buena Park quarterback Dylan Brazil lost a fumble in Estancia territory with Estancia ahead, 7-6.

Brazil left the game because of a left leg injury and did not return.

Mendez scored on a 26-yard touchdown run on Estancia’s ensuing possession. Gutierrez added a 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

“We came out flat and we really needed something to spark us,” Estancia coach Mike Bargas said.
“I was just happy to get out of here with a win.”

Buena Park coach Rob Ryan said he did not know Brazil’s status.
