First Team Singles
Alyssa Smith (Sr.), Dana Hills
Jessica Perez (Sr.), Dana Hills
In addition to handling No. 2 singles duties much of the year, Perez spent a fair amount of time playing No. 1 doubles with teammate Cassidy Spearman. The two won the South Coast League doubles championship without dropping a single game, then advanced to the semifinals of the CIF-SS Individual Championships. Throughout the CIF SoCal Regionals, Perez went 4-0 in four matches with a pair of victories in both the singles and doubles lineup.
Mayci Jones (Sr.), Tesoro
The BYU-bound senior dropped just two sets all season and finished her four-year varsity career with over 100 wins. After reaching the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Individual Championships a year ago, Jones advanced to the semifinals in 2012. Against JSerra, Harvard-Westlake and Peninsula in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs, Jones went a combined 8-0 in both singles and doubles play.
Yuki Asami (So.), University
The Trojans' most dependable singles player, Asami thrived in the No. 2 slot for Coach John Kessler. During an early-season stretch, Asami went 4-0 in singles sets against Los Alamitos and Troy, and took three doubles sets from Santa Margarita. The sophomore's most impressive win of the year came in a dramatic third-set tiebreaker against fellow first-teamer Jessica Perez.
First Team Doubles
Cassidy Spearman (Sr.)/Margo Pletcher (Jr.), Dana Hills
When the two weren't filling separate voids in the Dolphins' singles lineup or playing with different doubles partners, they garnered three-set sweeps of Peninsula, University (twice) and Tesoro. In the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs, Spearman and Pletcher swept University to hand the Dolphins their only doubles sets of the match.
Shannon Theisen (Sr.)/Danielle Pham (Jr.), University
The No. 1 team in a doubles lineup loaded with talent, Theisen and Pham -- both first team All-County players last season -- claimed the Pacific Coast League doubles championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Individual Championships. Along with then-doubles teammate Kyla Scott, Pham handed Player of the Year Alyssa Smith one of her two losses this season.
Celine Gruaz (So.)/Kyla Scott (Jr.), University
In the CIF-SS Division 1 team finals, Gruaz and Scott -- playing down from their usual No. 2 slot at No. 3 doubles -- swept eventual-champion Campbell Hall, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1. It was their third-set victory in the semifinals against Dana Hills that put the Trojans in the championship match for the second consecutive year. The pair also reached the finals of the Pacific Coast League doubles championship.
Mikey Barthelmass (Sr.)/Alex Valenstein (So.), Laguna Hills
Outstanding singles players in each of their own right, Barthelmass and Valenstein won the Sea View League doubles crown and reached the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Individual Championships for the second consecutive year. In the Division 3 team playoffs, the two combined to go 29-1 in singles play to lead the Hawks to their first CIF championship since 1998.
