Foothill drives past El Dorado in Century League showdown
PLACENTIA – El Dorado and Foothill are ranked No. 9 and No. 10 in the latest ocvarsity.com poll.
But that is likely to change after the Knights' 47-19 victory over the Golden Hawks in a key Century League game Friday at El Dorado High.
Hailey James scored 21 points to lead the Knights (18-6, 8-2), who held the Hawks (21-4, 8-3) to five points in the second half.
With the victory, Foothill avenged a 58-42 defeat to El Dorado on Jan. 8.

"We did a much better job of taking care of the ball," Foothill coach Vince Namba said. "In the first game, we had six or seven turnovers in the first quarter and we were playing catch-up the whole way. ... We did a much better job boxing out and rebounding too."
El Dorado guarded James closely, but the senior managed to get free often enough to get open looks. When that happened, she rarely missed.
On the defensive end, Foothill often double teamed the player with the ball and clogged the middle, forcing the Hawks to shoot from outside.
"We did a good job of getting back and the posts were hurting us (the first time) so we made an effort to try to double every single time," Namba said. "When they kicked it out last time, they were hitting all their shots. ... This time, they missed shots."
Jaylin Jones scored 15 to account for nearly all of El Dorado's points.
Jones got open and sink a 3-pointer in the third quarter — the Hawks' only basket in the quarter.
