El Dorado struggles, but downs Foothill
After winning the first two sets then dropping the next two, the visiting El Dorado girls volleyball team came up with a strong finish to beat Foothill, 25-21, 27-25, 22-25, 23-25, 15-8, on Thursday night to remain unbeaten in the Century League.
El Dorado (11-9, 7-0) is looking to capture its eighth league title in a row.
"We just need to keep winning," El Dorado coach Craig Tefertiller said. "If we play better as a team, figure out our roles and strengths, we'll be better."
In the second set, El Dorado was down, 16-9, but rallied to score eight of the next 11 points. The Golden Hawks took their first lead of the set at 24-23 and won the set to go up, 2-0.
But the momentum was short-lived. They dropped the third set and let the fourth get away from them, giving the Knights three points on serves into the net. El Dorado had seven serves into the net in the match.
Foothill (5-10, 4-4) pushed El Dorado to a fifth set but couldn't capitalize on the energy it had built up. In the final set, El Dorado scored eight of the first 10 points.
Outside hitter Kelly Claes led the Hawks in kills with 29. Tess Hultgreen had 14 kills, five aces and three blocks. Rebecca Bonaker had nine kills and 11 digs.
