De La Salle dominates Westlake in state title game
CARSON — Tiapepe Vitale and Bart Houston ran for two touchdowns each to lead De La Salle of Conord to a 35-0 victory over Westlake of Westlake Village in the California State Open Division Championship at the Home Depot Center on Saturday night.
The Spartans (13-1) moved the ball 58 yards in four plays on their opening drive, culminating with a 36-yard touchdown run by Vitale. On their second possession, Houston, the quarterback, scored on a 2-yard run.
Westlake (14-1), making its first appearance in the title game, had trouble doing much of anything against the De La Salle defense.
The Warriors' first drive ended when quarterback Justin Moore's pass, intended for Bradley Wellman in the end zone, was intercepted by Anthony Williams.
Westlake got to the De La Salle 9-yard line on its next possession, but a pass by Moore was picked off by David Moffitt at the goal line.
