CdM standout Buckley commits to UCLA

Corona del Mar cross country and track standout Shelby Buckley has committed to UCLA.

Buckley, who won the Pacific Coast League title, the CIF-SS Division III championship, and finished third in Division II at this year's state meet, was also being recruited by USC, Michigan, and Washington. She stated that making her decision takes some of the stress off her as she prepares for her final season of track and field.

“I'm really excited,” said Buckley, who will participate in cross country and track with the Bruins. “Committing definitely takes some of the pressure off me, and I can go out and have fun.”

Buckley began her high school career at Rosary, where she won the Division III state title. After joining the Sea Kings as a sophomore in 2005, she was a key component in the team that won three consecutive CIF-SS Division III titles, and two state championships in cross country. She is also the defending CIF-SS Division III and Master's champion in the 1,600 meters in track and field.
