Laguna Beach reaches Div. 3 championship game
IRVINE -- Laguna Beach's boys water polo team arrived at the CIF Division 3 semifinals Wednesday with a new look: mohawk haircuts.
The Breakers, however, left the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine with a familiar result.
Left-hander Nolan McConnell scored five goals and goalie Erik Henrikson made 17 saves to lead defending champion Laguna Beach back to the finals with a 14-5 victory against La Canada.
For the second consecutive season, the Breakers (24-6) will play Damien of La Verne in the finals. The Division 3 rivals play Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at Woollett.
The Breakers won last season's Division 3 final, 11-9.
Second-seeded Damien defeated Palos Verdes, 10-8, in the other semifinal.
In the Division 4 semifinals:
Agoura 10, Troy 6: Michael Franco scored three goals and Sam Feaster made 12 saves at Woollett for the Warriors (24-8), who fell to the top-seeded and defending champion Chargers (25-4).
Agoura scored four first-half goals on counterattack to open a 7-3 lead. The Warriors played the Chargers even in the second half.
