FIRST TEAM

Jacquie Adams, Orange Lutheran, Fr.

The Lancers freshman made a major impact in her first season, helping the Lancers to the O.C.C., Trinity League, and CIF-SS Division III title, along with a second place finish at the CIF Division III state final. She finished seventh at the O.C.C., (best among all freshmen), won the individual Trinity League title, finished fourth at the CIF-SS Division III finals, and 11th at the CIF Division III state final.

Teeny Adams, Esperanza, Sr.

Despite rehabbing a stress fracture early in the season, Adams returned to form and produced another quality season for the Sunset League champion Aztecs. She placed eighth at the Orange County Championships, and then turned it up a notch in the postseason, winning her first individual Sunset League title, finishing second at the CIF-SS Division II finals, and seventh at the CIF Division II State finals.

Rebekah Bahra, Orange Lutheran, Jr.

The junior was a big reason for the Lancers overall team success. She led Orange Lutheran to its first ever O.C.C. team title, finishing sixth, second among all juniors. Bahra was second at the Trinity League Finals, and finished sixth at the CIF-SS Division III finals, helping Orange Lutheran to its first ever team title.

Melanie Powers, Corona del Mar, Sr.

Powers again served as a driving force behind a Sea Queen team that won its fourth CIF Division III state title in the last five years. After finishing fifth at the O.C.C., Powers won her second straight individual Pacific Coast league title and finished third at both the CIF-SS Division III finals and the CIF Division III state final.

Makenna Smith, Trabuco Hills, Sr.

The senior leader of the Mustangs helped lead Trabuco Hills to a state title appearance. She finished third at the O.C.C., and posted the top individual county time of the Mt. Sac Invitational, finishing third overall. Smith finished third at the Sea View League Finals and was eighth at the CIF-SS Division I finals.

Sierra Vega, Foothill, Sr.

The Knights senior turned in another spectacular season. Vega won her second straight Sea View League title and finished second at the O.C.C., producing the best time of the day among all seniors. Despite an illness that hampered her late in the season, she finished seventh at the CIF-SS Division II finals and ninth at the CIF Division II State Finals.

Danica Wyson, Aliso Niguel, So.

Although a stress fracture ended her season midway through the year, Wyson still showed why she is considered one of the top runners in the state. Her season included wins at the Laguna Hills and Dana Hills Invitational, where she posted the top times of the meet. In her final race, Wyson won her first individual title at the Orange County Championships with the sixth fastest time ever ran on the modern course of the meet.

COACHES OF THE YEAR

Jack Preus, Orange Lutheran

Under the guidance of Preus, the Lancers enjoyed one of their finest seasons in school history in 2009. Orange Lutheran won its' first ever Orange County Championship title and set a new Central Park team course record in winning the Trinity League championship. The Lancers success continued in the postseason, as they won their first ever CIF-SS Division III title and finished second at the Division III state final, the third straight season that Orange Lutheran has finished no worst than second in Division III.

Bill Sumner, Corona del Mar

One of the most success coaches in the country helped lead the Sea Queens into the record books. Corona del Mar won the Pacific Coast League title and finished second to Orange Lutheran at the CIF-SS Division III finals. At the Division III state final, the Sea Queens captured their fourth state title in the last five years and their seventh title overall, tying them with University High in San Francisco for the most in the history of the state meet.
