ANAHEIM - Robert Cruz rushed for 381 yards and five touchdowns Friday night as Magnolia snapped a 21-game losing streak to Savanna, defeating Rebels, 39-21, in an Orange League game at Western High.
"This is huge for us," said Sentinels coach Dave Perkins, who was the recipient of a Gatorade shower afterward. "This is the first time we've won a big game in two years."
Magnolia (3-4, 1-1) jumped to a 21-7 halftime lead behind Cruz's 213 first-half rushing yards and scoring runs of 26 and 5 yards.
Savanna (2-5, 0-2) got 82-yard TD runs from Donevin Washington and Vito Zaccaria sandwiched around a Cruz 30-yard TD to trim the lead to 27-21.Contact the writer: preps@ocregister.com
