2011 O.C. ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Billy Gaudreau, St. Margaret's, Sr.

2011 ALL-COUNTY FIRST TEAM

Kevin Durham, El Toro, Sr.

The senior turned in another stellar season to earn his second consecutive first team All-County selection. He finished second in the sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships and then claimed the individual league title at the South Coast League Finals. Durham had the county's best overall time among all five divisions at the CIF-SS Division 1 Finals and finished third. He finished fourth at the Division 1 state final and had the county's top individual time among all five divisions.

Kyler Fisk, Tesoro, Sr.

Despite battling leg injuries throughout the season, Fisk produced a quality season and earned his first All-County first-team selection. Fisk produced an individual victory at the season-opening Laguna Hills Invitational and finished 10th in the sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships. He then won the individual Sea View League title and led the Titans to the team title. Fisk had the seventh fastest county time among all five divisions at the CIF-SS Division 2 finals before finishing fourth in the Division 2 state final. His time was the third fastest among all county runners in all five divisions.

Juan Gonzalez, El Toro, Jr.

Gonzalez enjoyed a breakout junior campaign to earn first-team All-County honors for the first time. He had an individual win at the Laguna Hills Invitational and had the third fastest time of all county runners at the Woodbridge Invitational. He was fourth in the sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships and fifth at the South Coast League Finals. Gonzalez had the sixth best time of all county runners in all five divisions at the CIF-SS Finals and the fifth best time of all county runners at the Division 1 state final to help El Toro to a fifth-place team finish in both competitions.

Jared Hazlett, Trabuco Hills, Sr.

Hazlett earned his first All-County first-team selection by guiding Trabuco Hills to an outstanding season. He had the second fastest time of all county runners at the Woodbridge Invitational. He was eighth in the sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships, leading Trabuco Hills to their second straight team title. Hazlett placed third at the South Coast League Finals to help the Mustangs win the team title for the second straight year. He then had the county's fourth best overall time at both the CIF-SS Division 1 finals and the CIF Division 1 state final. With Hazlett leading the way, Trabuco Hills won its first Division 1 state title since 2006.

Ethan Lawrence, Dana Hills, Sr.

The Dolphins' top runner was selected to the All-County first team for the first time. Lawrence produced an individual win at the Dana Hills Invitational and had the best overall time of the meet. He was sixth in the sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships and was fourth at the South Coast League Finals. Lawrence had the county's eighth- and seventh-best times at the CIF-SS Division 1 finals and the CIF Division 1 state final, respectively, to lead Dana Hills to sixth-place team finishes in both competitions.

Jose Penaloza, Godinez, Jr.

The talented Grizzlies junior became one of the county's elite this season to earn his first selection to the All-County first team. After early season race wins at the Dana Hills and Central Park Invitationals, Penaloza finished fifth in the sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships. He won the individual Orange Coast League title for the second straight year and had the county's second best time among all five divisions at the CIF-SS Division 2 Preliminaries and Finals. Penaloza was the first runner in school history to qualify for the state meet and finished ninth in Division 2.

Richie Soto, Marina, Jr.

The Vikings junior was consistently one of the county's top runners throughout the season to earn first-team All-County honors for the first time. He won early season races at the Don Bosch Tech and Woodbridge Invitationals and placed third in the sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships. Soto won the Sunset League individual title and then had the fifth best time among all county runners in all five divisions at the CIF-SS Division 1 finals. At the Division 1 state final, Soto was fifth and had the second fastest time overall time of all county runners in all five divisions.

Coach of the Year

Liam Clemons, Trabuco Hills

In his eighth season as coach of the Mustangs, Clemons successfully helped his team navigate a path to the state's summit and earns his second selection as coach of the year (2006). Despite losing five of their seven runners from a team that finished third in Division 1 at the 2010 state meet, Trabuco Hills won the team title at the Clovis Invitational and defended team titles in the sweepstakes race at the Orange County Championships and South Coast League finals. After placing fourth at the CIF-SS Division 1 final, Trabuco Hills won the CIF Division 1 state title for the first time since 2006. "This season is the most gratifying that I've had because of the way the kids went about getting to the top of the podium at the state meet," said Clemons. "The best talent you can have is the ability to work hard and that is the spirit that I tried to instill in this team, which they bought into."
