Division 1 boys blaze through swim prelims
High school swimming.
Orange County's Division 1 boys showed Wednesday that they are ready swim fast Friday.
During league prelims for the Pacific Coast and Sunset leagues, six county-leading times were recorded in individual events.
At the Pacific Coast prelims at Beckman, University's Chris Wong lowered his county-leading time in the 100-yard butterfly to 50 seconds flat.
The senior also blazed to a county-leading 1:41.37 in the 200 freestyle.
In the 100 breaststroke, University's Zachary Yong touched in a county-leading 59.12.
University freshman Corey Okubo continued to impress by lowering his county-lead in the 200 individual medley to 1:53.45.
At the Sunset League prelims at Newport Harbor, Marina's Nick Soedel became the first county swimmer this season to break into the 45-second club in the 100 free. The senior sprinted to a county-leading 45.22 – good for ninth on the county all-time list.
Capistrano Valley's Logan Redondo also posted a top-time in the county. Racing in his home pool for the South Coast League prelims, Redondo qualified first in the 500 free in 4:35.01.
In the Academy League prelims: Crean Lutheran freshman Lindsey Engel regained the county-lead in the 200 free with a sizzling 1:48.93 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. The time places her 13th in the county history.
