2010 ALL-COUNTY BOYS LACROSSE TEAMS

Player of the Year: Ryan Mix, Corona del Mar (Player of the Year story.)

Coach of the Year: Jon Fox, Foothill (Coach of the Year story.)

FIRST TEAM

Mike Marchand, Los Alamitos, attack: The senior had 64 goals and 52 assists, earning first team All-Sunset League honors for the Griffins, who reached the semifinal round of the Division I Orange County playoffs. Marchand also had 43 groundballs. He is headed to the Air Force Academy to play lacrosse next year.

Ryan Mix, Corona del Mar, attack: Mix, who helped led the Sea Kings into the Orange County finals against Foothill, scored 80 goals and had 22 assists, earning All-Pacific Coast League MVP honors. Mix, the MVP of the all-county boys lacrosse team, is headed to Notre Dame next year.

Cameron Cole, Foothill, attack: The junior helped the Knights win their fourth consecutive county and Southern California Division I titles. Cole scored 66 goals and recorded 39 assists, earning first team All-Sea View League honors. He also had 49 groundballs.

Chance Cooper, Foothill, defense: Cooper, a junior, was instrumental in Foothill winning its fourth county and Southern California titles. He came up with 40 groundballs and was a force on defense with 35 takeaways. Cooper earned first team All-Sea View League honors. He also had two assists.

Alex Mainthow, Corona del Mar, defense: Mainthow helped the Sea Kings reach the county title match against Foothill. The senior earned first team all-league honors. He came up big in the playoffs and wound up with 59 takeaways and 73 groundballs for the Sea Kings

Chris Adams, St. Margaret’s, defense: The senior captain had 79 groundballs and 35 takeaways and was the defensive stopper that started the fast break, according to Coach Gerry Manning. He also had three goals and four assists. A first team All-Trinity League player, Adams will play lacrosse at UC Santa Barbara next year.

Nathan Kleponis, Foothill, goalie: The senior was a four-year player with the Knights and came up with some big saves in the playoffs to help the Knights win their fourth straight county and Southern California titles. The co-MVP of the Sea View League, Kleponis had 165 saves and saved 58 percent of the shots against him. Kleponis is headed to Whittier College next year.

Jeff Askin, St. Margaret’s, goalie: The senior was a four-year starter and captain. He faced 202 shots on goal with 140 saves, a .693 save percentage. Askin also had two shutouts and led the Tartans to the Trinity League title and into the semifinal round of the Division I South playoffs. No team scored in double figures against him. Askin was the defensive MVP in the Trinity League. He will play for the University of Colorado next year.

Cooper Pickell, Foothill, midfielder: Pickell, a junior, scored 36 goals and recorded 19 assists for the four-time champion Knights. Pickell, a first team All-Sea View League player, was also a threat on defense for the Knights. He had 41 groundballs and 15 takeaways.

Josh Peterman, Foothill, midfielder: Peterman, a junior, was a threat on both sides of the ball for the Knights’ championship squad. A second team All-Sea View League player, Peterman scored 15 goals and had 22 assists. He also had 20 groundballs and three take-aways.

Dylan Acevedo, Mater Dei, midfielder: The junior helped the Monarchs win the Orange County Division II South title with a victory over Beckman. Acevedo had 35 goals and 34 assists for Mater Dei. He also had 109 groundballs and earned all-Trinity League honors.

Matthew Duenes, St. Margaret’s midfielder: The sophomore, a two-year starter for the Tartans, scored 17 goals and had 15 assists. He also hauled in 103 groundballs and had a .580 percentage on faceoffs. Coach Gerry Manning describes him as a player with “great mechanics and a high lacrosse IQ.”
