San Clemente's Fishman signs with Northwestern College
San Clemente senior Zach Fishman signed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle at Northwestern College, Tritons coach Mark Calentino announced Thursday.
Fishman, a four-year letterman, is currently tied with 2007 SCHS grad Michael Brady for the most career wins at the school with 150. This season, he is 42-9 and finished second at last week's Central Divisional, qualifying him for this weekend's CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet for the first time.
"When I saw him his freshman year, I knew he was a talent," said Calentino. "He has a tremendous work ethic, and his lived up to all of my expectations."
Fishman said he took recruiting trips to Arizona State and Northern Arizona, but immediately chose Northwestern College after making a visit there two weeks ago.
"I really liked the coaches and the environment," he said. He added he plans to major in kinesiology.
"I'm excited for him," added Calentino. "This is something he really wants to do and succeed at. I think he will do well at the next level."
Northwestern College is a Christian liberal arts college affiliated with the Reformed Church in America and located in Orange City, Iowa.
