O.C. football coaching changes for 2010
Check out our list of the coaches who have taken on new jobs or moved to new schools.
Here are the Orange County football programs with new coaches for the 2010 season:
• Aliso Niguel, Kurt Westling: Westling, who has been at Aliso since it opened in 1993, takes over for Jeff Veeder. The Wolverines have won three varsity games over the past three seasons.
• Buena Park, Anthony White: White, who left Temple City after one season as the head coach, takes over a program that went 0-5 in the Freeway League in 2008 and '09.
• Capistrano Valley, Matt Poston: Poston, who has been at Tesoro the past few years, replaces Chi Chi Biehn at Capo, which has won four league games over the past four years.
• Cypress, Mike Cobleigh: Ray Fenton, who led Cypress to a 38-12 record over the past four years, left to coach at Webb of Claremont. Cobleigh has been an assistant coach at Cypress since 1997.
• El Modena, Ed Drzanek: A longtime assistant coach at Servite, Drzanek replaces Greg Olquin at El Mo, which was 3-7 in 2009.
• Fairmont Prep, Kiki Mendoza: Mendoza, who coached St. John Bosco of Bellflower for 12 years, replaces his uncle, Bobby Mendoza, who remains at Fairmont as the school's head master.
• Garden Grove, Willy Puga: An assistant coach at Grove in '09, Puga replaces last year's county coach of the year, Joe Hay, who could no longer commit the time necessary to running the team, which went 13-1 in '09.
• Irvine, Erik Terry: Terry takes over for Terry Henigan, whose long coaching career produced 219 victories, fourth-most in county history.
• Magnolia, Ryan Olson: Olson, nephew of former Kennedy coach Mitch Olson, replaces Dave Perkins.
• Marina, George Pascoe: Pascoe coached Huntington Beach from 1983-95, and replaces Dan Petrone at a school that most recently won a league game in 2004.
• Orange, Dan Stroup: Stroup has been an assistant at a few schools, including Foothill and Santiago, and replaces veteran coach Tom Meiss, whose one-year return to the Panthers last year produced a 3-7 record.
• Santa Ana, Luis Ramirez: Ramirez, who replaces Scott Daniels, has been varsity offensive coordinator and freshman head coach with the Saints.
• Santa Margarita, Harry Welch: Welch, who replaces Mike Jacot, coached St. Margaret's to three CIF-Southern Section and one CIF State championship in his three years there, and has five other CIF-SS titles and another CIF State championship to his credit elsewhere.
• St. Margaret's, Rod Baltau: Baltau, the Tartans' assistant head coach the past couple of seasons, replaces Harry Welch, who now is at Santa Margarita.
• Trabuco Hills, Scott Orloff: Orloff, a former Dana Hills and Santa Ana Valley coach and most recently the defensive coordinator at Orange Coach College, replaces Jason Negro, who now is at his alma mater, St. John Bosco.
