Santiago wins fourth in a row
GARDEN GROVE - Santiago won its fourth consecutive game by decisively defeating Bolsa Grande, 35-0, on Friday night in a Garden League game.
The Cavaliers (7-1, 3-0) outplayed the Matadors (0-8, 0-3) from start to finish. The Cavaliers got it done on both sides of the ball.
They scored five touchdowns, four in the first half, and had 300 yards of total offense.
The Cavaliers defense shut down the Matadors.
They held Bolsa scoreless and even when the Matadors were in the red zone, Santiago managed go force a turnover.
The Cavaliers forced two fumbles and had two interceptions. They allowed just 109 yards of total offense. In the first half, the Cavaliers held the Matadors to 70 yards of total offense.
Cavaliers quarterback Chris Ortega completed 11 of 17 passes for 149 yards and threw for two touchdowns.
The tempo for the game was set less than five minutes into the first quarter. The Cavaliers marched down the field with nine consecutive running plays, capped by a 1-yard touchdown by Salvador Ceja.
Ceja rushed for two touchdowns and 64 yards on 11 carries.
Next week the Cavaliers put their four-game winning streak on the line as they play host to La Quinta. The Matadors visit Rancho Alamitos.
