OCVarsity previews football teams for the 2008-09 season.

Capistrano Valley Christian

Last season: 4-6, 0-3 (fourth)

Postseason: 2006, lost to Whittier Christian, 62-20, in Northeast Division first round

Coach: Chris Fore (3rd year, 9-12)

Outlook: The Eagles return two starters on offense and three on defense, so experience could be a tricky hurdle. CVC's 27-man roster features only six seniors. But the good news is that several players who didn't play last season have joined the squad. One of the newcomers to watch is wing-back Jason Pierce, a standout in baseball. Two-way linemen Lance de Haas is the top returner. The senior has been offered by the University of San Diego and attracted the interest of UCLA during the spring.

Home stadium: San Clemente

Factoid: Starting quarterback Sean Connolly will not play against Tri-City Christian in the Eagles' season-opener Sept. 6 because the date of his transfer from JSerra. Landon Melzer will get the start.
