Edison shows explosive side in rout of Cabrillo

LONG BEACH - Edison coach Dave White said his team has a lot of offensive weapons.

Those weapons were on display Friday night against Long Beach Cabrillo.

Wade Houston rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns, and Matt Viles threw for 199 yards and four TDs, two to Jeff Crissman, as the Chargers (2-0) scored 42 points in the second quarter in a 63-8 victory at Cabrillo High.

Houston added 65 yards on five catches as the Chargers, ranked No.ƒ|5 in the county, rolled over the Jaguars (0-1). Edison did not commit a penalty or a turnover and punted only once, on the final play of the game.

¡§We wanted to work on ourselves in this game,¡¨ White said. ¡§We had four turnovers and six or seven penalties in our first game, and we didn¡¦t want to turn the ball over tonight or make any penalties.¡¨

Edison next will face have an off week this week before facing Dana Hills on Sept. 19. They Chargers meet and a brutal back-to-back stretch against Servite on Sept. 26 and Mater Dei on Oct. 3.

¡§We had to get better tonight, and we¡¦ll have to get better next week,¡¨ White said.
