Brea Olinda slips to 1-2.
DIAMOND BAR - Brea Olinda fell to 1-2, losing at Diamond Bar High, 35-24. Brea had the lead at the end of the first half, but could not hold off the Brahmas’ running game in the third and fourth quarters.
“We made plays. They made plays. They just made a few more than us tonight,” Brea Olinda coach Robb Perrance said. “I was happy to see our kids play with heart all the way to the end of the game. We talk about that a lot”.
Brea Olinda had one more chance to score with 11 seconds left on the clock. However, the pass from Michael Frisina was intercepted by Howard Barlowe of the Brahmas.
There were other turnovers that hurt Brea Olinda more than that final interception, however. The Wildcats had two fumbles and one interception that resulted in 21 points for Diamond Bar. Brea Olinda also struggled to keep Sylvester Stewart contained as he rushed for 164 yards.
Michael Frisina led the Wildcats, rushing for 60 yards and throwing for 174 in the game.
Nadeem Tmiezh of Brea Olinda also rushed for 60 yards, while Trent Broadsteet had 81 yards receiving.
In the end, the rushing and passing games could not make up for the turnovers that led to the Brea Olinda loss.
Brea Olinda takes on Fullerton High next week.
