Beckman grabs five top seeds for Foothill finals
Beckman's boys swim team has struggled to show its strength in the challenging Pacific Coast League. But the Patriots ventured outside the Division 1 league Friday, and their speed quickly surfaced.
Beckman qualified first in two relays and three individual events to help highlight the boys prelims at the Foothill Swim Games.
The Patriots collected top-seeds for today's 10 a.m. finals in the 200-yard medley relay (1 minute, 40.41 seconds) and 200 free relay (1:30.10). Both times were near the CIF Division 1 automatic qualifying standard.
Beckman's Julio Ferreira qualified first in the 100 butterfly in 53.87 seconds while teammate, Kyle Jackson, touched first in the 100 free (48.63).
Nick Manders provided the Patriots' third No. 1 seed by clocking a 1:00.20 in the 100 breaststroke.
Newport Harbor's Tom Fisher and Hayden Hemmens and Tesoro's Brandon Boval earned the county's other top-qualifying times. Fisher covered the 200 freestyle in 1:45.36 while Hemmens posted a 4:52.08 in the 500. Boval stopped the clock in the 200 individual medley in 2:00.54.
