Beckman girls lacrosse team captures title at OC Invitational
Patriots' Allie Lehner scores 19 goals in eight-team tournament.
Beckman's girls lacrosse team took first place in the inaugural OC Invitational Lacrosse Tournament last weekend in Irvine.
Eight highly-ranked teams, including five from Orange County, competed.
No. 2-ranked Beckman was first, Coronado second and Los Alamitos third.
The MVP of the tournament was Allie Lehner, a senior at Beckman who had 19 goals and four assists.
The top offensive player was Lauren Maack of Coronado. She had 12 goals and three assists.
The outstanding defensive player was Ari White from Beckman while the goalie of the tournament was Meganne Weissenfels of Coronado. She had 36 saves.
Beckman went 3-0 in the tournament defeating La Costa Canyon from San Diego, 14-13, in the first round.
The Patriots went on to beat the top-ranked team in California, Monte Vista, 14-13, to advance to the championship.
Beckman won the championship match over Coronado, 15-9.
Besides Lehner, Abbey Messmer had a strong showing in the tournament with 10 goals and seven assists. Katie Miller had seven goals and Kylie Wong five goals for Beckman.
The Patriots' defense was led by Ari White and Alyssa Mathes along with Beckman goalie Abby Baeza, who had 31 saves in the tournament, including 18 in the championship game.
Los Alamitos (2-1 in the tournament) defeated Corona del Mar, 21-10 in the first round.
Coronado defeated Los Alamitos in the second round 13-10. In the third round, Los Alamitos defeated Monte Vista, 19-11. The Griffins were led by Julie Crowell (15 goals, one assist) and Allie Conrad (10 goals and seven assists).
Corona del Mar was 1-2, Foothill 1-2 and El Toro 0-3 in the tournament.
