SPECIAL TO OCVARSITY.COM

LAS FLORES Beckman dominated San Juan Hills on its way to a 42-7 victory at Tesoro High in Pacific Coast League action.

The Patriots backfield of Keith Lawson and Zack Rivera each racked up more than 200 yards.

The bruising ground game amassed more than 500 yards. Lawson finished with 254 yards on 19 carries with four touchdowns, including a 78-yard run on Beckman’s first possession. Lawson also had runs of 7, 53, and 12 yards. Rivera tallied 222 yards on 18 carries and TD runs of 58 and 57 yards.

Coach Fred Shambaugh knew his team was capable of putting together a solid game.

“We challenged our guys during the week and they responded. We played as one fist tonight,” Shambaugh said.

San Juan Hills finally got onto the board in the third quarter when Chaz Breithaupt found the end zone on a 30-yard scamper.

San Juan Hills pulled to 28-7 in the third quarter and had an opportunity to cut into the lead, but fumbled inside Beckman’s 5-yard line. Beckman scored on the ensuing drive when Lawson ran it in from the 12.

Beckman (4-2-1, 1-1) plays host to Laguna Hills next week. San Juan Hills (3-4, 1-1) travels to Irvine for its Pacific Coast League game.
