
IRVINE- Just when it looked like Northwood had it wrapped up, Beckman exploded for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to capture a wild 28-24 nonleague victory Friday night at Irvine High.
The Patriots (3-0) trailed, 24-7, going into the final quarter, but capped the comeback when Cody Demavivas scored on a 3-yard TD run with 4:43 left.
Northwood (0-2) was unable to counter on its final possession and Beckman took over and ran the clock out.
“It’s a tribute to the program development and the guys buying in,” Beckman Coach Fred Shambaugh said. “I’m just proud of those guys for responding and never giving up.”
Beckman got solid performances from Keith Lawson (105 yards on 17 carries) and Demavivas (56 yards on eight carries).
Northwood appeared to in control when Patrick Pancoast intercepted a pass and returned it 8 yards for a score to make it 24-7 with 4:03 left in the third quarter.
