O.C. showdown in Santa Barbara TOC semifinals
No. 1 Newport Harbor will take on No. 2 Los Alamitos for the second time in two weeks.
The top two ranked girls water polo teams in Orange County are going to clash again.
This time, though, the battle is going to take place in Santa Barbara.
Top-ranked Newport Harbor (12-1) and No. 2 Los Alamitos (16-1) each won two matches Friday at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions to reach Saturday's 12:15 p.m. semifinal at Santa Barbara.
Newport Harbor and Los Alamitos played in the Sunset League nine days ago. Newport Harbor won in overtime, 6-5.
In Santa Barbara, Newport Harbor's Kaleigh Gilchrist and Kailyn Obenauer combined for nine goals in a 14-6 quarterfinal victory against Palos Verdes. Gilchrist had five goals while Obenauer had four.
In the first round, Gilchrist had five goals in a 12-5 victory against Riverside Poly.
Los Alamitos defeated Santa Barbara, 11-5, behind four goals by freshman Stephanie Mutafyan. Goalie Savanna Smith had 12 saves.
In the 11:10 a.m. semifinal, No. 3 Corona del Mar takes on top-seeded and defending champion Dos Pueblos (15-0) of Goleta.
Corona del Mar advanced by defeating No. 4 Laguna Beach, 5-3, in a quarterfinal at Dos Pueblos.
Margot Money and Pippa Saunders each scored twice to lead Corona del Mar, which led at halftime, 4-2.
The final Saturday is set for 4:35 p.m. at Santa Barbara.
In a consolation match, Foothill defeated Mater Dei, 17-9.
