Pacifica slams Katella, 40-6
ANAHEIM — Pacifica used a pair of Katella miscues in the first six minutes to help the Mariners open Empire League play with a 40-6 victory over host Katella on Thursday at Glover Stadium.
After a fumble recovery by Aaron Garcia on the Knights’ first drive, Luther Tolbert scored three plays later.
On the next drive, Katella’s punt snap was fumbled and Josh Gulley picked it up and went 13 yards into the end zone for a 15-0 lead with 5:57 left in the first.
Austin St. Marseille capped a 22-point first quarter with an 18-yard TD reception of a Mario Nava pass.
Joel Willis had a pair of second-quarter scores and Tolbert added a scoring run in the third to cap the night for the Mariners (2-3-1, 1-0).
Katella (1-5, 0-1) avoided the shutout with 1:02 left on Nik Bush’s 25-yard touchdown reception.
