Los Amigos brightens when lights come back on

Special to OCVarsity.com

GARDEN GROVE - The fans enjoyed an entertaining first half in the opening-round game of the CIF playoffs between Segerstrom and Los Amigos, then endured a near hour-long delay as the Garden Grove High stadium lights went out at halftime.

When the game resumed, Los Amigos ended Segerstrom’s season, as Ricky Vu rushed for 258 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries and Jose Gonzalez completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Rafat Khalil with just under five minutes left in the game for a 40-37 victory. (Full game stats.)

Despite an impressive 402 yards in total offense, Garden Grove League tri-champion Los Amigos (6-5) allowed 420 yards to Segerstrom (6-5), which got 151 yards rushing and two touchdowns from Matt Navarro.

He also returned an interception 27 yards on the second play from scrimmage after the delay to give the Jaguars a 24-20 advantage.

Los Amigos had problems stopping Segerstrom on third down. The Jaguars converted on 11 of 13 attempts before Los Amigos came up with a big stop on a third-down pass play, followed by Isaac Tucker  hitting Brian Murrietta as he threw an incomplete pass.
