ALISO VIEJO - Behind Adam Muena's 174 yards on the ground, Charter Oak of Covina made a season opening road trip a successful one with a convincing 30-14 win over Aliso Niguel Friday night.
The Cougars needed just under three minutes to get on the board on a 12-yard pass from Chris Allen to Kiely Rycraw. The host Wolverines used a T.J. Romano 47-yard interception run to set up a 10-yard scoring strike from Romano to Russ Absullah to tie the game less than four minutes later. Abdullah had to battle for the final five yards, busting two sets of tackles before falling into the end zone for the score.
Charter Oak would score the next 23 unanswered points, using a 28-yard run by Muena and two short scoring runs by Allen to go ahead 30-7 with just over eight minutes left in the third quarter.
Aliso Niguel snapped the string with a 13-play, 92-yard drive culminating in s 20-yard pass from Joseph Galosic to Clayton Lilywhite.
Defensively, the Wolverines allowed 291 yards and forced two fumbles, one recovered by Jacob Wilson.
