I’m thankful to have my family back, alive, and to get a fresh start. The house we were renting in New Orleans got destroyed in the hurricane. I was here training for a fight. My fiance and little daughter were still there. I lost contact with them. I went numb. I felt like a little child who loses himself in the mall.

We lost everything – cars, furniture, clothes, all the baby’s stuff, photos. But as soon as I got the call saying they were OK, I didn’t care about anything else. I had tears coming out of my eyes.

We plan to stay in Orange County now. We’ve picked ourselves up, little by little. We’re a lot richer than before, and I don’t mean materialistic-wise. I mean all the great people we’ve met and all these blessings. One family took us in for a whole month. It makes you realize there are still a lot of good people out there.
