Gary McKnight of Mater Dei is the National High School Coaches Association boys basketball coach of the year, the association announced today.

McKnight coached Mater Dei to its fourth consecutive CIF State championship this past season, his 32nd coaching the Monarchs. He also was MaxPreps.com’s coach of the year for all boys sports for the 2013-14 school year.

McKnight has 995 career victories, the most in California boys basketball history and the 13th most in national high school boys basketball history.

The NHSCA has honored national coaches of the year in a variety of sports for 15 years.
