Laguna Beach senior Makenzie Fischer scored once and Newport Harbor senior Carlee Kapana went the distance in goal as the U.S. women’s national water polo team lost to host Italy, 11-9, Sunday to cap off a week of training with the European contender.
The U.S. squad also included Ficher’s sister, Aria, and, ex-Corona del Mar standout Maddie Musselman.
Olympian Courtney Mathewson (Canyon) also scored twice for Team USA.
The match was played at the historic Foro Italico pool, which was built in the 1930s.
