WEDNESDAY’S CIF-SS GIRLS WATER POLO SEMIFINALS

DIVISION 2

AGOURA (25-6) VS. SAN CLEMENTE (18-7)

Site, time: William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, 5 p.m.

Outlook: The No. 3-seeded Tritons need to sink the No. 2 Chargers to reach their second CIF final and first since their championship season of 2011. Agoura has been hot since losing to El Toro, 6-3, at the Santa Barbara TOC. In its past 16 games, Agoura has only dropped a pair of one-goal decisions to Royal and Dos Pueblos. San Clemente defeated both in January but not by much. Agoura features nine seniors, including Wagner-bound Natalie Kayton and Northridge-bound Lauren Rothermel, a 5-foot-11 utility. Left-handed center Amber McCutcheon leads a talented San Clemente offense with 104 goals. Cassidy Smithson (49), Makenna Smith (42) and Alaina Cousineau (42) each have at least 40 goals. The key for the Tritons is defense. When they played well defensively, they’re a difficult foe.
