Esperanza has forfeited victories against Irvine and Bellflower because of two academically ineligible players, Aztecs football coach Gary Bowers said Thursday.
The players were reserves in the games, playing limited action in the Aztecs’ season-opening 39-15 victory against Irvine and 49-14 triumph against Bellflower.
Esperanza (0-3) fell last week to Buena Park, 42-35, in double-overtime.
The Aztecs self-reported the infractions to the CIF-Southern Section, Bowers said.
“You have to be ethical about this,” Bowers said.
CIF-SS director of communications Thom Simmons confirmed Esperanza’s forfeits. The Aztecs play Canyon (1-2) in a nonleague game at El Modena on Friday.
Irvine’s record improves to 3-0 entering its game Friday against visiting Laguna Hills (3-0).
