Fountain Valley swim coach Mike Nichols, who guided the Barons’ boys to a dramatic Sunset League title in 2015 and restored the girls to a county power, is leaving the Sunset League school for Clovis North, he said.

Nichols has been hired as the girls water polo coach at Clovis North and the on-campus, full-time position of student relations liaison.

Nichols coched the Fountain Valley girls the past six years and the boys the past five. He also has coached at the Irvine Novaquatics swim club.

Fountain Valley’s girls could be one of the top teams in the county again next season, especially if the injured Carly Perri returns.

The Fountain Valley and girls each finished in the Top 20 in Division 1 this season.

Girls water polo is a fall sport at Clovis North. Nichols also will be coach the 18-and-under girls with Royal Water Polo Club.
