El Toro boys and girls water polo coach Brett McCleave has resigned for family reasons, he said Friday.

McCleave guided the El Toro boys the past two seasons after replacing Coach Don Stoll, who retired.

He also served as a co-head coach and head coach the past two seasons with El Toro’s girls water polo team.

El Toro’s boys tied for second this past season in the South Coast League and took second in 2012. Dana Hills claimed the league crown both seasons.

The Chargers’ girls won the South Coast League title two seasons ago and reached the Division 2 semifinals.

McCleave is set to get married next month and is pursuing other career opportunities, he said. He said he will continue to coach at SET and is helping with El Toro’s frosh-soph boys swim team.

El Toro now becomes one of several intriguing openings. Foothill girls and the Los Alamitos boys and girls are seeking coaches for next season while Newport Harbor’s girls position looms as an opening after Bill Barnett retires after the 2014-15 season.
