El Toro has to make 3s to beat a team as good as Mission Viejo, and especially when the game is at Mission.

El Toro missed its first 13 3-point shots. The Chargers did make 5 of 8 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, when they made a good run and pulled with four points. Mission Viejo made some clutch free throws in the final minute, with RJ Yoakum and Max Redfield flicking in two apiece from the charity stripe.

Mission Viejo had the better athletes in this one. The Diablos did a good job on the boards and on contesting El Toro's 3-point shots.

El Toro made six turnovers in the first quarter, after which Mission had a 16-4 lead.

Max Redfield turned an ankle in the second quarter, got it taped and was able to go in the second half. He missed some easy layups but made some tougher drives. He scored seven in the fourth quarter.

Darin Sutton hit some clutch shots for the Diablos. He scored a game-high 20.

A very good scorer for El Toro was reserve Tanner Aguera, who scored 15 with three 3-pointers.

Good school spirit by the student sections for Mission Viejo and El Toro. The South Coast League gets good student cheering action.
