Softball Preview: O.C. Top 10

Kennedy starts the season No. 1 in the county rankings.
O.C. TOP 10
1. Kennedy: The Fighting Irish lost Brooke Turner, a two-time Register Player of the Year and the most dominant pitcher in the county last season, to graduation, but Oklahoma-bound Allee Allen is ready to take over in the circle and help get Kennedy back to the Division I finals. The speedy Reid twins, Jamia and Elia, who have signed with Cal, wreak havoc on the basepaths and St. Joseph's-bound Monica Aguilar is a clutch hitter.
2. Pacifica: The Mariners lost their two regular-season games against Kennedy, but came back to knock off the Fighting Irish, 5-1, in the Division I championship game. Pacifica has some explosive hitters with UCLA-bound Andrea Harrison, Arizona State-bound Christina Zambrana and Arizona-bound Kristen Arriola. Central Arizona-bound Katie Tamayo, Cal State Humboldt-bound Kristin Little and sophomore Krystian DeWitt will be handling the pitching duties.
3. El Modena: The Vanguards have reliable pitching with Evansville-bound Kylie Wagner, a solid group of veterans and a talented group of freshmen. Cal State Dominguez Hills-bound Emily McEwen might be the best power hitter in the county. Wagner's little sister, freshman Haylie Wagner, is very talented and will get some time in the circle. Devin Vanderhoff has a good stick and will be another impact freshman.
4. El Toro: Can the Chargers live up to the high expectations they have this season? They certainly have the talent. Washington-bound Niki Williams, Cal Poly SLO-bound Kendall Hennings, Boise State-bound Christina Capobianco and Akron-bound Allison Dorr are among the seven returning starters back for El Toro. Cal State San Bernardino-bound Carly Land and junior Emily Waters will provide solid pitching.
5. Mission Viejo: The defending South Coast League champion Diablos had a solid regular season in 2007, but exited in the first round of the playoffs. There are a lot of coaches around the county who believe the Diablos will be one of the stronger teams in the county this season, especially because of their strong pitching duo of Pacific-bound Michelle Tait and Georgetown-bound MacKensey Carter.
